Histiophryne psychedelica, Pietsch, R. J. Arnold & D. J. Hall, 2009
Histiophryne psychedelica, also known as the Psychedelic frogfish, has an unusual psychedelic pattern and is unique from many other anglerfishes in that it lacks a luring appendage on its forehead and pelvic fins and in being flat-faced. The specific epithet psychedelica, alludes to the unique pigment pattern of swirling concentric rings and stripes that everywhere cover the head, body, and fins.
The psychedelic frogfish has so far been positively identified only at Ambon Island, Indonesia, although it is quite likely that it will be eventually found elsewhere in Indonesia.
