Phanerophthalmus smaragdinus looks like an aglajid and was considered to be a member of that family.
Aglajids are carnivorous,but Phanerophthalmus smaragdinus is a herbivore sea slug closely related to Haminoea. The radula and gizzard, with three grinding chitinous plates are similar to the Haminoea slugs.
The green Phanerophthalmus smaragdinus is a primitive herbivorous slug with an internal shell.The small plate-like shell is partially enclosed in the mantle tissue.The headshield is very small.
