Info
Endemic to Australian waters, this finger fin (Goniistius rubrolabiatus) is found from the Recherche Archipelago in South Australia to Coral Bay, north of Shark Bay, in Western Australia, and is considered a rather rare species.
Goniistius rubrolabiatus, also known as “Redlip Morwong” in English, can be easily identified by its distinctive, name-giving red lips.
Its light brown body shows seven diagonal brown stripes running down to the belly as well as many small brown spots and dots between the broad bars mentioned.
Detailed information about the biology and behavior of the reef-oriented finger fin is still unclear and needs to be researched.
There is also a lack of information on keeping them in marine aquaria, and not everything that swims in the sea necessarily belongs in an aquarium.
Synonym: Cheilodactylus rubrolabiatus Allen & Heemstra, 1976
