Info
The fauna of the archipelago of São Tomé and Príncipe in the Gulf of Guinea is of particular interest to many marine biologists because the eastern flowing equatorial currents (the seasonal equatorial countercurrents and the subsurface equatorial undercurrent) link the western Atlantic and the undercurrent) link the western Atlantic and the eastern Atlantic at this latitude.
The marine invertebrate fauna of São Tomé and Príncipe is known to consist of a mixture of the two faunal regions.
The gorgonian shrimp Rapipontonia platalea was found here on unidentified small blue and white gorgonians at 14 meters depth on Rolas Island, the two
Rapipontonia platalea shrimp species were collected.
Rapipontonia platalea was also confirmed from unidentified large gorgonians on Rolas Island at 26 meters depth and from unidentified large gorgonians at 21 meters depth at Sete Pedras and at 45 meters depth at Pedra da Galé.
You have to look very closely to see the small shrimp.
