Halgerda paulayi Donohoo & Gosliner, 2023
The Indo-Pacific genus Halgerda Bergh, 1880 is one of the most diverse and best-studied genera within the nudibranch family Discodorididae. Previous studies were mainly based on morphology. Recent investigations of molecular data within Halgerda (two mitochondrial and two nuclear genes in coordination with the morphology) succeeded in describing 14 new Halgerda species in 2023.
In 2023, the 14 newly described Halgerda species prove the high diversity of the genus Halgerda Bergh, 1880 (Nudibranchia: Discodorididae).
The 14 newly described species are:
Halgerda anosy Donohoo & Gosliner, 2023
Halgerda berberiani Donohoo & Gosliner, 2023
Halgerda biqiea Donohoo & Gosliner, 2023
Halgerda hervei Donohoo & Gosliner, 2023
Halgerda labyrinthus Donohoo & Gosliner, 2023
Halgerda maaikeae Donohoo & Gosliner, 2023
Halgerda mango Donohoo & Gosliner, 2023
Halgerda mesophotica Donohoo & Gosliner, 2023
Halgerda pattiae Donohoo & Gosliner, 2023
Halgerda paulayi Donohoo & Gosliner, 2023
Halgerda profunda Donohoo & Gosliner, 2023
Halgerda radamaensis Donohoo & Gosliner, 2023
Halgerda scripta Donohoo & Gosliner, 2023
Halgerda takipsilim Donohoo & Gosliner, 2023
The hump snail Halgerda paulayi is native to the Red Sea and grows to about 7cm in size.
