Nicola tetela (Borojevic & Peixinho, 1976)

A very unusual and little known calcareous sponge of the genus Nicola. The genus name "Nicola" refers to Mrs. Nicole Boury-Esnault in recognition of her dedicated work on the taxonomy of sponges, including calcareous sponges. The type species used to describe the genus is the calcareous sponge Nicola tetela (Borojevic & Peixinho, 1976).
