Info

Hero formosa (Lovén, 1844)

A beautiful and delicate species of sea snail with a single row of bushy, branched gill-like cerata on each side of the body and on the front of the head. It can grow up to 38 mm and is pale pink-brown in color with white spots on the body and a white midline along the back. The head bears a pair of greatly enlarged, curved mouth tentacles.

The slug can grow up to 4 cm long and feeds on both hydrozoans. It was found on a smooth muddy rock surface in the reef.

Something to smile about from the seaslugforum: This rare little animal was mistakenly mistaken for a small tuft of fingers of the soft coral Alcyonium digitatum, but was later identified upon observation on the slide.
