Odontozona stigmatica Saito, Okuno & Anker, 2017
Odontozona shrimp are close relatives of the Stenopus scissor shrimp known in marine aquariums, but unlike them are completely unknown in aquariums.
However, aside from the close relatives of the common coral shrimp Stenopus hispidus, there are several other groups that never really appear in the world of saltwater aquariums, but that doesn't stop them from being discovered and described by crustacean taxonomists. The most recent coral shrimp relatives to be properly classified are two species of Odontozona shrimp, Odontozona stigmatica and Odontozona arbur, described in 2017.
In addition to their general body shape and the way they hold their scissor arms, shrimps of the genus Odontozona share a similar red and white coloring with the Stenopus shrimps. However, they are not as intensely colored and not nearly as large or conspicuous as Stenopus species.
Described from only a single type specimen from Ishigaki Island, Ryukyu Archipelago, southern Japan, Odontozona stigmatica is light orange overall with small peach-red spots covering most of its carapace. The scissor shrimp is similar to Odontozona arbur, but has distinctive white scissor tips.
