Info

The photo shows a specimen growing on a Carijoa colony, about 6 cm long, dark blue throughout.

Description
Terpios granulosus is a thin, dark blue colored, encrusting sponge 0.8- 1.0 mm thick, covering colonies of a Carijoa sp. (Class Anthozoa, Phylum Cnidaria) and growing on coral or rock surfaces.
The surface of the sponge is microhispid.

Texture:
The texture of the sponge is brittle and granular.
The surface is generally uneven and follows the contours of the substrate on which it settles, but the sponge itself is velvety, macroscopically granular and microscopically viscous.

Skeleton. It is formed by brushes of spines that also protrude above the surface and cause the microhispid surface spines.

Synonym: Terpios granulosa Bergquist, 1967 - unaccepted (correction of species name to match gender of genus name.
