Iphinoe canariensis Corbera, Brito & Nunez, 2002
Cumaceans are benthic crustaceans that are usually found in soft bottom environments. Although they can burrow into the sediment, they mainly swim in the water layer close to the bottom.
Bodotriidae are a family of crustaceans belonging to the order Cumacea. Bodotriidae are found worldwide in shallow and deep waters. In both sexes, the telson is fused with the last segment of the pleon to form a pleotelson. Males usually have five pairs of pleopods, but more rarely three, two, or none at all. In females, the second antenna is significantly shorter than the first.
The type locality for the description of Iphinoe canariensis is the Canary Islands, Tenerife, Tanque del Vidrio, Cymodocea meadows (tanggrass meadows), 12 m depth.
Pigmentation: The carapace has three pigmented areas: one behind the eye lobe, another at the middle edge, and one at the distal edge. The distal part of the propodus of the first pereopod is also pigmented. In addition to the carapace pigmentation, the egg-bearing female also has rich pigmentation of the thoracic and abdominal segments.
