Info

Living colonies of Leptogorgia manabiensis have a pretty dark pink color.

There are two records of the size of the azooxanthellate horn coral:
The holotype is a colony that is 155 mm long and 120 mm wide.
Other colonies in the initial description reached a length of up to 316 mm and a width of 236 mm.

Azooxanthellate corals colonize in waters with strong currents, where the current washes up organic suspended matter to feed the species.

Etymology. The species epithet “manabiensis” refers to the province of Manabí (Ecuador), the type locality where the new species was discovered.
