Cryptoplax oculata, 14cm

Several Cryptoplax oculata were seen, usually stretched partway out of holes in the reef in the Russell Islands. These unusual chitons have reduced shell plates embedded in the tough surrounding tissue.

Similar to Cryptoplax larvaeformis (lacks white and black colouration around the first three valves).
