The umbrella alga Acetabularia caliculus is a very pretty and decorative alga that is also available from time to time in the (US) trade. On a long, thin and cylindrical style there is a small umbrella that is comparable to molds. The algae are usually anchored very effectively on stones or rocks, meaning they are difficult to remove.
A feast for the eyes on a solitary reef rock without contact with other reef rocks.

Color: grey-green to bluish-grey with a light lime coating.

In the sea, the algae can be found on stones, coral rubble, mussel shells and wood.
