Info

Portumnus latipes (Pennant, 1777)

Portunidae is a family of crabs that also includes swimming crabs. They are characterized by the fifth pair of legs being flattened into wide paddles and used for swimming. This ability, along with their strong, sharp claws, allows many species to be fast and aggressive predators.

Portumnus latipes is a small swimming crab found in the intertidal zone of sandy, exposed beaches.
