Asterophilia carlae Hanley, 1989

The Sea star scale worm is red, orange to reddish-brown with numerous tubercles with inflated tips.This species live commensal on various sea stars.The photo shows the Asterophilia scale worm on the blue sea star Linckia laevigata.The photo was taken in Fidji.

Very similar is Asterophilia culcitae, can only be determined under a microscope.
