Plectaster decanus (Muller & Troschel, 1843)

The mosaic sea star is the only species in the genus Plectaster.It is a five-armed and colourfull starfish.

Plectaster decanus is one of the few poisonous sea stars, and can cause numbness in humans.

The mosaic sea star inhabit rocky reefs of the southern coast of Australia and can be found at a depth of 0 - 200 m.

Feeds primarily on sponges.
