Husbandry

Ancylomenes tosaensis (Kubo, 1951)

Ancylomenes is a genus of shrimp, erected in 2010 to accommodate the group of species around "Periclimenes aesopius" (now Ancylomenes aesopius). Members of the genus are widely distributed in the warm oceans of the world, and live in association with cnidarians.

Ancylomenes tosaensis can be found most often on the anemones Stichodactyla haddoni, Macrodactyla doreensis, Actinodendron arboreum, and Actinodendron plumosum, although it can also occur on Stichodactyla mertensii, Heteractis aurora, Heterodactyla hemprichii, and probably others. They often hover like little helicopters above the anemone, sometimes stationary, sometimes weaving back and forth.
