Cominella virgata is a species of predatory sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusc in the family Buccinidae, the true whelks. This is an active scavenging carnivore and a predator of bivalves.

The Red-mouthed Whelk is a common whelk species that inhabit rocky shores of New Zealand. This species is endemic to New Zealand.
