This nocturnal species shelters during the day and forages at night feeding on dead fish and molluscs and has been observed opening and feeding on giant clams (Tridacna sp.) (Holthuis 1991, Lavalli et al. 2007). It lives on coral and rocky reefs at depths of 5 - 112 m.
