Chrysaora achlyos Martin, Gershwin, Burnett, Cargo & Bloom, 1997

The bell diameter can be up to 1 m, the tentacles are 5 - 6 m. The bell color is a distinctive opaque dark purple to nearly black, with the margin having a lighter brown reticulated pattern.

They generally feed on zooplankton and other jellyfish.

The sting can cause skin irritation and burning.
