Fromia ghardaqana Mortensen, 1938
This species almost never comes into the trade, so more accurate statements are difficult to make. Like other Fromia starfish, it is hard to keep alive in the long run. This is certainly due to the fact that we can not offer them in the aquarium what they find in the sea in terms of food, so they eventually just disappear (starve).
Even in large tanks with abundant microfauna and plenty of supplemental food, keeping them is not successful. Fromia starfish are beautiful, but unfortunately food specialists!!!
If you keep these species anyway, you should at least offer a lot of additional plant and animal food (like spirulina tablets etc.).
With none(!) of the Fromia species we know of keeping successes that last for years. If you do, please just add a comment :-)
When buying starfish in general: You should observe the animal carefully.
If you are unsure about its condition, please let the animal turn "on its back" under water.
The starfish should turn around by itself within a short time (about 2 to 3 minutes).
Sluggish animals or specimens with open spots should not be purchased.
Careful slow re-acclimatization is top priority!
