Greenlings are bony fishes and only 6 species of the Hexagramminae are known:

Hexagrammos agrammus (Temminck & Schlegel, 1843).

Hexagrammos lagocephalus (Pallas, 1810).
Hexagrammos octogrammus (Pallas, 1814).
Hexagrammos otakii (Jordan & Starks, 1895)
Hexagrammos stelleri (Tilesius, 1810)

Hexagrammos otakii is an inhabitant of rocky, artificial zones, but is rarely observed in the wild due to its deep distribution (up to 155 meters).

The greenling is reared commercially in aquaculture and is prized as a sport fish in the areas where it occurs.
