Husbandry

Claereboudt, 2007

Very special thanks for the first photos of the beautiful bright blue Porites decasepta to Dr. Michel Claereboudt from the Oman.
This species is known from the Bar Al-Hikman reef complex and West of the Island Masiraalong the Arabian Sea, coast of the Sultanate of Oman, where the coral is locally common.
Despite extensive surveys this species was not observed in the Gulf of Oman, the coral appears restritced to the Arabian Sea.

Porites decasepta differs from all other species of Porites by its unusual septal arrangement.
Similar species: Superficially similar to Porites okinawensis.

From Corals of the World by Charlie Veron:

Characters: Colonies are small (<100 mm diameter), encrusting. Corallites are <1 mm diameter and flush with the colony surface. The Porites pattern of septal fusion is barely distinguishable as the ventra triplet is not formed.

Colour: Bright blue.

Similar Species: Superficially similar to Porites okinawensis however this has a fully developend ventral triplet.

Habitat: Shallow exposed reef.

Abundance: Common

Classification: Biota > Animalia (Kingdom) > Cnidaria (Phylum) > Anthozoa (Class) > Hexacorallia (Subclass) > Scleractinia (Order) > Poritidae (Family) > Porites (Genus) > Porites decasepta (Species)
