This species occurs on sandy reef slopes and is most common in very deep waters.
The colonies are massive and have a previously unknown size range

Porites studeri prefers marine areas with a not too strong current.

Similar species: Porites lobata is very similar, except that the septa are thinner and usually 8 pali can be recognized

Color: light brown / tan
