Sclerophytum abruptum is a soft coral, that forms huge, flat crusts with irregular, twisted, wall-like knobs that are alrger and taller than sthose of other members of this genus.
The corals shwos well defined walls mark the edge of the colonies, hence the name "abrupta"
.
Sclerophytum abruptum is common on surge-exposed shallow reefs.
