Sclerophytum murale was first described as Sinularia muralis May, 1899 and is known from Indonesian waters and parts of the Western Indian Ocean, where the soft coral was found on reef slopes.

We are not currently aware of any imports, husbandry experience or offspring of this partially overlapping soft coral.
